Of the twenty names on DRC’s roster, Nakazumi Hawaaiti has given the fewest interviews — so when he agreed to answer one question this week, staff made it count. Asked what he made of the promotion’s first night, still three weeks out, he didn’t mention an opponent. He didn’t need to.

“There is a title with no one’s name on it,” he said, bowing slightly before he’d even finished the sentence — the same exaggerated, needling bow he uses in the ring. “Everyone else is talking about who they want to hit. I am only interested in the part where it becomes mine.”

No challenge issued, no rival named — but it’s the first time Hawaaiti has spoken publicly at all since signing, and it puts him quietly in the same conversation as every other Heavyweight on the roster eyeing the vacant title on July 31st.
