Bulldog Stephenson plays the biggest, friendliest guy in the room, because he is one — a small-town strongman who genuinely can’t understand why anyone would rather be booed than cheered. He comes to the ring flanked by hometown girls waving the flag because that’s the show he grew up wanting to see, and he’s not going to be embarrassed about wanting to be that guy himself. Underneath the showmanship is a legitimately dangerous power wrestler: he presses opponents overhead like it costs him nothing and he only speeds up as a match gets longer, which is a bad sign for anyone who planned to outlast him. The Lockjaw, his finisher, is a crushing over-the-shoulder bearhug he simply does not let go of until the referee has counted three or the opponent has quit.
